INDEED WE WERE AND I REMEMBER YOU VERY WELL. OFTEN DURING MY VISITS TO DELHI AND WEST PATEL NAGAR I LOOK FOR YOUR HOUSE AND THINK OF YOU. MUCH HAS CHANGED THERE--THERE IS NO PUSA GATE THAT WE KNEW.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT UC DAVIS? I VISITED THERE IN 2007 WHEN I WAS SHEPARDING THE FIBER SOCIETY CONFERENCE.
LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE STILL WORKING. I AM DEEPLY IMPRESSED BY YOUR CREDENTIALS AND CONSIDER MYSELF FORTUNATE TO HAVE SHARED A FEW YEARS WITH SOME ONE OF YOUR CALIBER. YOU WERE INCREDIBLY INTELLECTUAL EVEN THEN. I TRUST YOUR BROTHER BECAME AN EQUALLY SMART ENGINEER.
I AM RETIRED SINCE 2007 END., BUT CONTINUE TO WRITE. PUBLISHED ONE LAST YEAR. WORKING ON ANOTHER WITH A FRIEND/COLLEAGUE IN AUSTRALIA.

My Dearest Friend Subhash,
It is a small world.I am so delighted to hear from you. I have reviewed on Google your academic achievements.In the field of fiber technology you have VERY IMPRESSIVE achievements & endowed Professorship & Directorship of a Center at NCSU.
Let me give you my short biography post-Pusa Middle School.I obtained B.Sc(Biology & Chemistry) Delhi University in 1956.Then I joined Christian Medical College Ludhiana,Panjab University & obtained my Medical Degree from there in 1962.
After a couple of House-Jobs at Irwin Hospital,Delhi,I came to USA in 1964.I have been here since then )(except for 2 years 1969--1971 at Edmonton,Alberta Canada
WE HAD A FEW MORE EXCHANGES WHERE NIRMAL TOLD ME ABOUT HIS FAMILY, AND SO ON.
I WAS HOPING TO COME TO DAVIS SOME DAY AND SEE HIM. ALAS! WHAT I SAW ON GOOGLE IS HIS OBITUARY. IT HAS MADE ME SO SAD. I MISSED MY OPPORTUNITY TO SEE HIM. OF ALL THE NAMES OF HIS FAMILY I DO REMEMBER HIS YOUNGER BROTHER SURRINDAR. TO HIM AND ALL OTHERS, I DID NOT MEET, I OFFER MY CONDOLENCES--LATE AS IT IS. I WILL LIGHT A CNADLE FOR HIM ON MY SHRINE.

I came to know him through our Mushaira group. I knew him as a poet first then as a doctor. He was very kind to gift me his autographed book. I was wondering about him as we were missing him, left some voice messages but he was not there to answer them. Two days ago someone told me that he passed away. I couldn't believe it. This is life.
Nirmal Ji, I always said (I amEmcee in those mushairas) that you were our "Maan". You are missed and you are still our "Maan".

Dr. Mann was a wonderful man who made a big impression in my life along with his loving family. He will be missed, but never forgotten ("never say goodbye"....)

Clinical Case Conference and G.I. Grand Rounds will never be the same without Nirmal. He was an inspiration to the faculty and fellows with his clinical acumen and thorough presentations. I will miss him greatly.
