Toshiko Marry Rosenau (nee Kouke), 77, of Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully at home on November 9th, 2025, after a prolonged illness. She was born on March 31st,1948, and grew up in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii. A graduate of Kailua High School in 1966, she received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees (Animal Science) from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She married Andrew Rosenau in 1969 and lived in Hawaii, Arizona, and New Mexico before settling in Sacramento, California, raising two lovely daughters along the way.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, bird watching, camping, and traveling. Toshiko served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 32 years, retiring as Master Sargent (E-8) in 2008. In the Army she trained as a petroleum laboratory specialist and served her units as a training NCO. Her main civilian roles were administration and training as a battalion schools administrator and with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District. She was active in her church and she participated in over 30 mission trips with Seed One Missions helping to build churches and bible schools in Argentina, Spain, Fiji, Cambodia, several Central American counties as well as within the western U.S. She was also active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) serving many years as Secretary of the Nisei VFW Post 8985 Auxiliary. Toshiko played ukulele and sang Hawaiian music with the VFW Post ukulele and hula group, and she danced with Kaulumele’s Polynesian Dance Troupe.
All will dearly miss her. Preceded in death by her parents Roy and Amy Kouke, her sister Judy and her brother Roland; she is survived by her husband, Andrew Rosenau; daughters Naomi (Wayne) Davidson and Robin Rosenau; brothers Wilfred (Robin) and Lester Kouke; niece Kristin Kouke; nephew Bradley Kouke; and grandsons Andrew and Neil Davidson.
Memorial service at Nisei Memorial Hall (1515 4th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814), on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
