Margaret "Peg" Young March 23, 1933 – March 23, 2022
Margaret Alison Young was born in Minden, Nebraska to parents Frances Boardman Jones and Alton Young. Her family lived in many rural areas throughout the western United States as her parents pursued their professional careers. Margaret graduated from Quincy High School in 1951, and in 1956 from the University of California, Davis with a degree in home economics. Margaret excelled at sewing, winning numerous 4-H awards for her creations. After graduating from UC Davis, she worked as a County Home Demonstration Agent in Hanford, California for several years, then went on to earn a Master’s Degree from the University of California, Berkley, with an emphasis in electron microscopy. Margaret returned to Davis in 1964, which would be her home for the rest of her life. She worked at the University of California, Davis’ Veterinary Research Center from 1964 to 1970, and from 1971 to 1985 she was employed at the State of California Textile Testing laboratory in Sacramento. Margaret’s family remembers her as an ardent maker and collector of all things crafty, a daily consumer of local news, and holding a liberal perspective on all things political. Margaret was proceeded in death by her brother, Robert A. Young, who also was a graduate of the University of California, Davis, and is survived by Lynn (Hamberger) Young (wife of Robert), nieces and nephews Douglas, Brian, Kathryn and Kristiana Young, and cousins Patricia Rucki and James Johnson. Margaret requested no service be held, and in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to the American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association.
