Loretta Mae Redman Obituary

Loretta Mae Redman

Born September 29, 1931 in San Francisco to Rose Marie Bondi and Edward Busalak. An only child.

Remembered by her son Jeff “JP” Redman (Karen), her Grand Daughters Amelia Burke Redman and Nicole Claire Redman (Nicholas Heacock), her Great Grandchildren (Miles, Val, and Asher) and her many friends old and young.

Proceeded in death by her Grandparents, her Mother, her beloved Step-Father (Jack Tozzi), her 2nd son, Stephen James (“Teedy Jane”), her many Uncles, and her husband of 47 years, Jack Raymond Redman.

Her parents divorced in about 1940. After which she lived with her Mother, Rose.

From 1945 to 1949 she lived with her maternal Grandparents Antonino and Rosalia Bondi on Bigler Way in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood. Where she became quite close and attached to her Mother’s brother “Uncle Joe” Bondi.

In 1950 she married Jack Redman, who she described as “the love of my life,” and with whom she was married for 47 years until his death in 1997. Together they had two sons. Jeffrey Paul (JP) and two years later, Steven James. Who died of Spinal Meningitis at age 3 months. Loretta grieved for Steven all of her life.

The first home Loretta and Jack purchased together was on 18th Avenue near Franklin Blvd in Sacramento, California. A post-war neighborhood of small houses where Loretta made many friendships that she, always ready to “go for a drive,” maintained to the day of her death.

In the late 1950’s, Loretta became one of the California Highway Patrol’s very first Radio Dispatchers. She continued to work and serve in that position until her retirement from CHP 42 years later. After which Loretta continued her work as a radio dispatcher with the California Department of Parks and Recreation in the region that includes Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.

In 1962 Loretta and Jack purchased what she would come to call “My Nice Little House” in old Land Park. She lived there until 2021.

For many years Loretta was a member of the Sutter Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Junior League, and a volunteer with the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was proud to be the  descendant of courageous immigrants and was a long-time member of The Sons of Italy.

From 1963 to 1964 she was a member of The John A. Sutter, Jr. Memorial Committee of Sacramento which was successful in having Sutter’s remains relocated to the Sacramento City Cemetery from the original burial site in Mexico.

After Loretta and Jack both retired, they traveled the United States as well as to Europe, Hawaii, and Japan.

Loretta left us in the early hours of September 5th, 2024. Just 24 days short of her 93rd birthday.

Attached to the envelope containing her final arrangements was a note, in her still beautiful handwriting, reads – “ I had a good run & now it’s over. What’s wrong with that?”
