Laurence Lucena
11/14/1934 - 4/23/2023
Laurence (Larry) J. Lucena, cherished husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023 at his home in Granite Bay, CA. He was 88.
Born on November 14, 1934 to Joseph and Mary Lucena, Larry was the eldest of three boys. He graduated from San Juan High School in 1952 before enlisting in the Army in 1954. After serving for three years, he was honorably discharged in 1957. Larry spent 15 years as a pharmaceutical salesman, followed by a 20-year career as a school bus driver before retiring.
While attending College, he met and fell in love with a fellow student named Janet Johnson. They were married March 8, 1959. Together, they have 5 children.
An avid bird hunter, Larry spent 70 seasons in the fields and duck blinds. He shared his love of hunting with his two sons, as well as his grandsons. Coaching was another passion of Larry’s. He coached Pop Warner Football and Tri City Little League for several years, where he was known for his tenacious, tough-love coaching style. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, gardening, and golfing with his wife, Janet.
Charismatic and personable, Larry never met a stranger. At every event he attended, he always drew a crowd. His good-natured, warm disposition made all who met him want to be around him. While he will be remembered for many things, his wonderfully quick wit will be foremost for many who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Janet, their five children, Melanie {James}, Laurie, Yvonne, Marc, Michael, along with his brother, Paul {Nancy}, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a myriad of extended family.
Friends and family are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life on July 1st 2023 from 10am – 1pm at Bayside Church - 8191 Sierra College Blvd Roseville, CA.
