Obituary
Krishan Lal Sethi passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born on August 11, 1931, in Sargodha, Pakistan, Krishan was the son of Kanaya Ram and Sita Rani Sethi. After the Partition of India in 1947, Krishan, his parents, and his seven siblings relocated to Ludhiana, Punjab, where they began rebuilding their lives. From a young age, Krishan was shaped by deep family roots, unbreakable strength, and enduring values. His life spanned decades of transformation and change, yet through it all, he remained grounded in love, selflessness, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to family.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved Phulan Sethi, his partner in life for decades, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His presence anchored generations of his family.
In June 1975, Krishan came to the United States with his eldest daughter, Darshana. In October 1977, Phulan and their six children joined him, and together, they began a new chapter in America. It was a journey defined by strength and an unbreakable family bond. Through every challenge and triumph, Krishan remained a pillar of resilience, dignity, and pride, building a legacy that lives on today.
He is survived by his six children, each of whom carries forward his gentle spirit and love of family: Darshana (Som) Budhraja, Anil (Sunita) Sethi, Suman (Pardeep) Chatkara, Dazy (Manoj) Bajaj, Toshi (Amit) Handa, and Geeta (Jeff) Foreman. He was the proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and the delighted great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren.
To his grandchildren—Mike, Amit, Angelia, Tonny, Lucky, Archana, Shiva, Sonny, Anita, Deepali, Eeshaan, Ethan, Gabby, and Izzy—and great-grandchildren—Arnav, Aiden, Addison, Sahai, and Ari—he was so much more than a grandfather. He was their biggest fan and their warmest hug. He had a gift for making each of them feel like the most important person in the world. That was one of Krishan’s quiet superpowers—his ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the world.
Krishan was also a cherished uncle, deeply loved by his many nieces and nephews. He had a special way of connecting with each of them—whether through stories, laughter, or the simple joy of his company. They’ve shared countless memories of time spent with him, reflecting the warmth and love he brought into their lives.
Krishan is also survived by his loving sister, Shanta Khanna, and his brother, Satnam Sethi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phulan Sethi; his daughter, Shashi Bala Sethi; and his siblings, Jagan Nath Sethi, Mohan Lal Sethi, Brij Lal Sethi, Amrita Chatkara, and Vanti Manaktala.
