Karnail (Kelly) Singh Rakkar was called home on May 5, 2022 in Roseville, California, at the age of 65.
Karnail was born in Rakran Dhahan, Punjab on February 26, 1957. Growing up he was the mischievous youngest brother, always playing pranks on the family and playfully causing a ruckus wherever he went. He was very close to all of his siblings and had an immense love for them that only grew stronger as they all aged.
Karnail raised his sons as his friends and treated his daughter-in-laws as his own daughters. He was a proud grandfather and a true family man. At every celebration, he enjoyed Round Table pizza with his family at his request, as it was his absolute favorite pizza and none other would suffice. Quirks like this were just a small part of his whimsical personality. A people person through and through, Karnail could bring people together naturally with just one conversation. His energy was infectious and felt instantly by all who chatted with him.
Karnail was a spiritual man who loved to practice acupuncture, meditation, and yoga. He was known to have a home remedy for just about everything, and even perfected his own special tea that seemed to fix all. Among other hobbies he took great pleasure in cooking, walking, being in nature, and going to the Gurdwara. He loved old school music, especially by Kartar Ramla, Lata Mangeshkar, and Yamla Jatt.
In Chandigarh, Punjab, Karnail attended Khalsa College, earning a degree in Economics. He later arrived in the United States in 1977, ambitious to work and earn an honest living. In 1994, he retired and moved back to India. After five and a half years of retirement, he decided to return to the US for the betterment of his kids, started his own business, and continued to run it successfully for over twenty years. In more recent years, he began his spiritual journey to enlightenment and found a new level of happiness, peace, and contentment with life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sukhjinder Kaur; siblings Avtar Kaur, Jagtar Singh, Kulwant Kaur, and Manjit Kaur; sons Jasvinder (Sonia) and Sanjit (Kiren); and grandkids Jovin, Kasen, Sanaya, and Maeva. He is preceded in death by his parents Thakar Singh and Charan Kaur and elder brothers Sohan Singh and Jarnail Singh.
