On February 28th 2023, Jaswant Charan Singh (Jessi) passed away peacefully while asleep at home in Elk Grove, CA. She is the second eldest of seven daughters of Harbans Singh Gujral (Punjab High court lawyer) and Harbans Kaur Gujral of Rawalpindi, Punjab. Born in Lahore, Punjab on December 5th, 1936 she survived the partition of India in 1947 and moved with her parents to Simla, Himachal Pradesh (India) and later to Chandigarh (India). She was married to Captain Gurcharan Singh (Indian Airline pilot) on September 13th, 1959 in Chandigarh and they settled in New Delhi, India where they had two children. Her husband moved to Lagos, Nigeria where she worked as an elementary school teacher for seven years and traveled extensively. Jessi and Gurcharan moved to California to be with their adult children in the nineties. In the U.S. she taught yoga and Indian cooking at the community college in Napa, California, Northern Essex Community College, Massachusetts and co-founded a legal business with her son-in-law and daughter in California. Jaswant Charan Singh is survived by her children; Harminder Gambhir Singh (married to Namrita Judge Singh) and Dimple Kaur Kohli (married to Rupinder Dev Singh Kohli). She leaves behind four grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Sukhprita Kaur Piekara (Kohli), Ranjana Kaur Kohli, Sohni Gambhir Singh, Barik Gambhir Singh and Anaiya Sophia Piekara (daughter of Sukhprita and Evan Piekara). Jaswant Charan Singh was a poet, distinguished teacher, yoga instructor and business owner.
