Mrs. Georgia Mae Slaughter Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother

Mrs. Georgia Mae Slaughter passed away in her home in Sacramento, California on August 21, 2017. She was 85 years old.

Georgia was born to Ivy Dixon and Woodrow Hogan on November 12, 1931 in Haughton, Louisiana. As a young woman, she attended trade school to become a seamstress. She was skilled in making tailored clothing, décor pillows, and upholstery for furniture.

She also became an ordained minister, a title she held for 45 years. Throughout that time, she served as a Mother of the Church and a counselor for many different congregations. She travelled the world with her ministry which gave her the opportunity to experience different cultures and see different walks of life. In her travels, she visited the Holy Land twice and was baptized in the river of Jordan.

She met and married Joe P. Slaughter in California and started a family. To that union they were blessed with and raised eight children. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always encouraged her family to set high goals for themselves.

Georgia was raised in the church and instilled the same Christian values in her children and grandchildren. She offered wisdom, prayer, and support to all around her. She lived her life by these words, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). She passed on this philosophy to her family. She loved to sing hymns, praise the power of the Lord, and spread His word. She was a kind, generous woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Georgia and her husband owned several businesses throughout their years, such as Willowbrook Appliance Repairs which was in operation for many years. She also provided upholstering services for her church, once managing a project to upholster over 1000 chairs. She enjoyed cooking and often helped cater church events. Her passion for cooking lead to her later opening a restaurant in Louisiana called Georgia’s Place. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Joe P. Slaughter, son Hilton Slaughter, granddaughter Chakhan Washington, and brother Jay Dixon.

She is survived by her children Conrad, Jenise, and Jackie Slaughter, Carol Bosley, Jenita (James) Chambers, Gloria (Glenn) Hinsey, Angel (Murad) Mubarak; her grandchildren Kenneth Harold, Duron James, Lenita Cambell, Kevin, Gary, Almond, Frank Lampkin, Tyran Slaughter, Ravenn Davis, Lexxus Hinsey, Matthew Mubarak, Laylah Hinsey, London Hinsey; and a host of great-grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
