2 May 1932 – 16 May 2017
Sophia Cook (born Sophia Lee Miller), age 85, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, slipped away peacefully on May 16, 2017. She was preceded in death by her sister Thelma Bailey and son Steve Cook. Sophia is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dale B. Cook, her brother Dave Miller, her daughters and their spouses, Cindy and Don Duarte, Jeni and Jim Walker, Kristine and Chris Schuster, Sue and Rob Dellinger and her daughter-in-law Gayle Cook, as well as her grandchildren, Lindsay, Brian, David, Chelsea, Lucy, and Phoebe. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Sophia was born in North Sacramento to Henry Miller Jr. (former mayor of North Sacramento) and Borghild Miller. She is a Grant Union Alumni Class of 1950. Sophia met the love of her life at a dance. She smiled at Dale and that was the beginning of their love story. She provided a loving home for her husband and five children. Family was the center of her life. Sophia enjoyed the simple things of life, cooking, baking, and spending time at the family cabin in Pollock Pines. In 1972-73 the Cook Family hosted Helene Bullat, a foreign exchange student from Switzerland, who became a life long daughter. Once the children were grown, they enjoyed travelling and “dancing around the world.”
The family will hold a private celebration of life.
