 Maria at 91 years has peacefully passed away on May 16, 2017 in Sacramento with her daughter by her side.  She was born on July 2, 1925 in Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico and later married Lucas Pacheco and moved to the United States in 1946.  She lived in Gardenland for 70 years and worked in the local cannery for 40 years.  Maria was a devout Catholic and prayer was at the center of her life.  She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  Maria was also a member of the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center where she learned to speak English.  She spent much of her time gardening and loved to grow tomatoes or prune her flowers.  There was always more work to do outside and it kept her active.  For many years, she enjoyed taking the RT to Macy’s downtown and having a little lunch while she was there.  She also loved music, dancing and watching Telenovelas.  Family was at the center of Maria’s life. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Children:  Victor Pacheco & Shelley (wife), Irene Torres, Angelina Pacheco, Esther Kennedy and K.Y. (husband), and Luis Torres (son-in-law). Grandchildren: Luis & Stacy (wife), Marisol, Julia-Rose, Lucas & Ashley (wife), Chantalle, Mechele, Kayla, Trey, and Jalen. Great Grandchildren:  Gavin, Elliott, Ariyah, Kingston, Marcus Jr., Maiyah, Alaysia, Amari, Aubrey, and Mi’onie. Maria was the youngest of seven children and is preceded by: Lucas Pacheco (husband), Secundino Orozco (father), Calixtra Mayorga Orozco (mother); Francisco Orozco, Exiquio Orozco, Antonio Orozco, Petrita Escobedo, Jesusita Gandara, and Anita Alvarez (siblings); Margarita-Irene and Margarita “Maggie” (children), Anthony and Marcus (grandchildren). 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center or bring photographs of Maria to share.
