Dorothy Lavonne McMahon

Dorothy McMahon, an inspiration to many, passed away at 92 on February 14, 2017. 

She was born in Wolf Point MT to Lillian and Joseph McMahon.  During childhood she moved frequently living in Granville ND, Phoenix AZ and eventually graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1942. She lived with, traveled  and cared for her mother who died in 1978. Dorothy retired after 30 years with the federal government (Dept of Reclamation & Administrative Law Hearings Assistant - Dept. of Social Security). 

Dorothy enjoyed her retirement pursuing her passions of sun, travel, and music. She had a special affection for cajun and zydeco music, dance and culture and was easily recognized at many local and out of state musical events. She was an avid reader and regularly visited public libraries.

Dorothy was a lovely lady, kind and friendly. She frequently volunteered and supported local charities such as WEAVE, Francis House, the Salvation Army, and Sacramento's Trinity Cathedral .

Dorothy will be remembered by many for her free spirit and zest for life.   

A musical celebration honors Dorothy on April 1, 2017 at The Eagles Hall, 4401 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento CA 95820.  (12:00 PM Fellowship & special guests, 1:00-5:00 PM Dance featuring Mark St. Mary Blues/Zydeco Band)

 Memorial contributions can be made to the Francis House or WEAVE.
