Brian Jay MacDonnell

Brian Jay MacDonnell, 64, of Sacramento passed away at home on April 30, 2017 from esophageal cancer.  Born in San Diego on July 7, 1952, he was the third and youngest child of Janie and Al MacDonnell.  Growing up in a Navy family, he lived in many places including Turkey and Guam.  Preceded in death by parents Janie Schlaht & Albert MacDonnell, sister Patsy Nugent & son Peter.  Survived by wife Mary MacDonnell, brother Charles (Joanne) MacDonnell, daughters Nicole (David) Quinn and Rose MacDonnell, grandsons Timothy Geiskopf, Anthony Quinn & Echo Jones.

He served in the Navy aboard the USS Shelton and USS Coral Sea from 1970-1974 and graduated from University of California, Berkeley. He was retired from a career in mortgage banking from Wells Fargo.  Brian enjoyed his home state and was a willing tour guide.  On his regular walks in the neighborhood he was easily recognized with his signature broad brimmed hat.  He was an avid cyclist & passionate gardener.  He created art through painting and sculpture.  He loved feeding family & friends with his home cooking.
