                                                                     Aurelio "Papa Joe" Chavez

Passed away on August 20, 2017, at the age of 76 and born on November 12th, 1940 in Monterrey, Mexico.

He traveled to the United States with his family, and as a child worked as a migrant farm worker, and worked for over 20 years before settling in Sacramento, CA. This is where he was able to use his entrepreneur spirit and business sense to become a business owner. He successfully owned an auto body shop, wrecking Yard, and also mastered the craft of upholstery for over 25 years before retiring. He was able to accomplish all this, as he taught himself to read and write in both Spanish and English, with just a 5th grade education.

At the age of 40, he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. Served as a church Pastor and Evangelist, traveling through California and Mexico, spreading the Word of our Lord and Savior for over 15 years.

As we remember our Papa Joe we find joy in the memories of him loving his music and dancing to the rhythm of his own beat. He had his famous one liners, and he could light up the room with his smile.

Charismatic, full of love, laughter, protector, teacher, confidant, Man of God, are all the characteristics we will miss but never forget. Papa enjoyed the simple things like fishing, cars, good food, but most importantly his family!

Survivors include his wife Gloria, his brother Indalecio and sister’s Lupe, Irma, Gloria, Velia and Yolanda, His son’s Aurelio, Mike, Thomas, Raul, Jesus  and daughter’s Teresa and Tina.19 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.

Papa Joe will reunite with his parents Guadalupe and Nicolasa Chavez, his brothers Juan, Tomas, Humberto and Sister Blanca.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Visitation will be Monday, August 28, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the North Sacramento Funeral Home 725 El Camino Ave, Sacramento. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 10:00 am also at North Sacramento Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Citrus Heights.
